Sheena Macleod was a world famous award winning Scottish doll maker. She made 12 character styles of dolls, from women who gathered seaweed and lichen for dying tweed, to fishwife and knitter and spinners from the Highland and Islands.
All the fabrics are Scottish made, the hands and feet made from clay. The body is made of cloth over a wire armature and the hair is real lambswool.
Her original tag reads:
In Skye, as in many parts of Scotland, women helped prepare the soil for various crops. Here she carries seaweed to the field where the menfolk will dig it in to fertilize the ground for potatoes'
