She Who Wears Antlers. Needle Felted Doll
She Who Wears Antlers. Needle Felted Doll
This doll is a symbol of an ancient lineage of women who honored the old antlered one.
Theirs is a lineage that stretches back to women who followed great herds of reindeer., their foremothers who wore antlered headdresses - and with the beat of their drums moved between the worlds and ran with the herds.
“You run through valleys, over streams up valleys and down. You know the way for it’s etched into every cell of your body. Running the terrain is a dance between you and the landscape. There are old, old stories set into these pathways, these are the pathways earth magic flows through. The herd is a map, the ones which know the way with every hoof and heartbeat, communicating with those who ran these pathways before them and reaching out into the future to those who seek the path"
— J Lally. Taken from 'She Who Runs With the Herd', from the Ancestral Mothers of Scotland Wheel of the Year.
Making process
This doll is made by needlefelting, using British core wool from small holdings, while her hair is made from a Swiss breed of sheep. Her clothes are up cycled - purple tartan, faux sheepskin, and a synthetic mock mohair purple, embellished with a Scottish limpet shell.
Her staff is adorned with some acrylic mossy texture wool while her headband was made using a lucet (a wooden viking tool) to form these circular cords.A small pouch is attached to her waist - which can be used to store small sacred objects.
